Smoothie Makers: Made for Smoothie Lovers

Blenders Versus Smoothie Makers

What’s a smoothie? A smoothie is like a milkshake except that it doesn’t have ice cream, an essential ingredient of the milkshake. The smoothie is said to be the healthier alternative because its primary ingredient is usually a fruit. It can be frozen fruit or even fresh fruit. There are smoothies that are made from only one kind of fruit and some smoothies are made from a combination of several fruits. This fruit base is combined with yogurt and crushed ice and blended well. It looks like a milkshake and is also cold and usually takes the color of the fruit base.

Blenders are the foremost tool in making a smoothie. Without the blender, it would be close to impossible to crush and blend the ice and mix all the ingredients of a smoothie in one smooth and slush like form. A blender consists of a glass container that has a cap on it and a motor base. The cup is to prevent the food or liquid from running over or spilling over when the blades are rotating. The blades are at the bottom of this container. They can be removable from the container for easy cleaning. The base of a blender contains a motor which powers and moves the blades.

Why discuss blenders when the topic is smoothie makers? This is because the smoothie maker is a variation of the blender. It is portable and smaller than the blender. It is more compact as it is only intended to blend fruits and liquid to make smoothies. The glass also has calibration in it. The major difference of a smoothie maker and a blender is the stir stick included and the structure of the glass container and the motor. Some smoothie makers don’t follow the container structure of the blender. They have instead cylindrical or funnel shaped containers that can be turned upside down for use as a glass. They can also have a small spout to dispense the smoothie into glasses even while its still blending.
